Green-lipped mussel for horses: An all-in-one ingredient

What is green-lipped mussel?

The green-lipped mussel is a mollusk that lives in the waters of Marlborough Sounds in Australia. As its name suggests, the green-lipped mussel is easily recognized by the edge of its shell, which is bright green in color.

The Marlborough Sounds are one of the purest waters in the world, and only here can the green-lipped mussel survive. That is why this area was given protected status, and the water quality is continuously strictly monitored.

Green-lipped mussel is packed with good ingredients

Green-lipped mussel is known as a powerful dietary supplement that contributes to the health of both humans and animals in many ways.

Because the green-lipped mussel only thrives in a very pure and rich habitat, it contains a lot of essential and natural ingredients that contribute to good health. Some of these ingredients include omega-3 fatty acids, glycosaminoglycans, furan fatty acids and antioxidants.

Omega-3 fatty acids
The green-lipped mussel is the ultimate source when it comes to omega-3 fatty acids. These essential polyunsaturated fatty acids are hugely important as the body hardly makes them itself or simply does not make them itself. The fatty acids ETA, EPA and DHA are known for health benefits including healthy joints and optimal heart and brain function.

Glycosamine glycans are a natural source that contribute to collagen-rich tissues in the body, such as cartilage, connective tissue and intervertebral discs. Again, very important for both sport and recreational horses that are frequently ridden and could use this support.

In addition, there are the furan fatty acids that green-lipped mussel is full of. Until a few years ago, it was thought that only the complex omega-3 fatty acids present in the mollusk were the reason for its anti-inflammatory power. More recent research now shows that furan fatty acids also offer anti-inflammatory activity.

Antioxidants
Finally, green-lipped mussel is rich in antioxidants. The antioxidants from the mollusk help protect body cells and tissues from free radicals, so it also prevents premature aging.

For horses struggling with movement problems due to stiff joints, supplements with green-lipped mussel are a perfect solution. It supports connective tissue, tendons and cartilage as well as promoting the development of synovial fluid. It is like an all-in-one solution!

By choosing green-lipped mussel, you are also avoiding the use of NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and choosing a natural alternative. Green-lipped mussel works effectively, but unlike these commonly used painkillers, it has no negative side effects, even when used in high doses.
